Beer and Ale Connoisseurs will love this selection of the most popular Butcombe lines that are certain to go down as an ideal chosen tipple.

Butcombe Brewery was in many ways the original craft brewery, started in 1978 against a backdrop of massive brewery closures and consolidation. The brewery first brewed Butcombe Original, which has since become one the West Country’s best loved bitters, served across pubs throughout Bristol, Somerset and the West Country. The brewery continues to strive for incredible quality and consistency in all its beers – captured well in its strapline ‘truth in every taste’.

We’re a big fan of the quality and price of Butcombe’s beers and few ‘newcomers’ have established such strong heritage in such quick time.

Butcombe Gold: Multi-award winning Ale. Go gold or go home. Fearlessly brewed, this is a well-balanced, full-bodied golden beer with a subtle floral and herby aroma. A true Bristol sunset in a bottle, worth its weight in gold.

And now Gold is Gluten Free. All the taste of classic ale but just without the gluten. Made from dazzling Maris Otter malt, our exceptional golden ale won’t disappoint. Part bitter, part sweet, 100% refreshing.

Gold has been brewed using all the same ingredients and hops we have always used for our golden ale. Now though, at the fermentation stage we take out the gluten. Our Gold Gluten Free bottles are also suitable for vegans.

Butcombe Original: Multi-award winning Ale. You can spot a true original a mile off. Bristol born and made to stand out. Created from Maris Otter malt and a secret blend of English hops. Meticulously crafted before ‘craft’ was even a thing. Its distinctive bitter, clean and refreshing flavour has been Bristol’s go-to for good times since the 1970’s. From the first sip to the last drop, you’ll never taste a beer quite like it. The Butcombe Original bottles are suitable for vegans.

Butcombe Rare Breed: Multi-award winning Pale Ale. Rare Breed is the result of Adam Henson’s dedication to sustainable farming and a passion for characterful, artisanal beer. Using the finest Maris Otter malting barley and aromatic Fuggles hops, delicious, fruity Cascade and Amarillo hops and, of course, purest Mendip Spring Water, Rare Breed is a distinctive, clean tasting pale ale with a smooth, citrus twist. A bold, standout beer that’s one of a kind. The Rare Breed bottles are suitable for vegans.

Butcombe Goram IPA: Multi-award winning IPA. Goram – Bristol’s legendary giant – was no stranger to a well-crafted ale. Fortunately neither are we. Ode to his renegade ways, our IPA uses a punchy blend of American and Worcestershire hops to balance stone fruit, citrus and bitter notes with spicy hop aromas. Strong, big flavoured and with the ABV of a classic ale. When it comes to IPAs, Goram towers above the rest. The Goram IPA bottles are suitable for vegans.

Butcombe Brewing Co. was founded in 1978. It was a time of cultural, social and political change. The team at Butcombe therefore shut out the world and made beer.

At that time, no one was risking it all by starting a traditional brewery, making simple, premium, easy-drinking ale. To do so was an act of defiance. Or madness. But, 39 years later, by staying true to their beliefs – and with a lot of hard graft – it looks like owning a resolutely traditional brewing company isn’t such a crazy idea after all. By going against the grain, to work intimately with it, the team at Butcombe made their own statement with every pint. And what was true then is just as important today.

There’s no pretence, no airs and graces, just a good honest pint made with talent and pride. Never a challenge but happy to surprise, whatever they brew you know that’s their best work in your glass.
